Children are often enthralled with the idea of cooking, often at an early age. This interest is often heightened by all the cute kitchen toys they play with, along with their ability to imagine just about anything.
Many popular toy maker brands have created miniature kitchens with plastic versions of many kitchen staples. You’ll find everything from pots and pans to sunny side up eggs and bacon strips. Pretend cooking has made it very easy for inquisitive toddlers to begin experiencing fun in their own tiny kitchens.
Easy Bake Ovens make cooking easy, fun, and popular. Girls (and boys) for several generations have been able to create all sorts of yummy treats in the comfort of their own rooms. Helping out with dinner preparations was more fun than work. In fact it actually made cooking easy with all those extra hands. There were lots of ways you could help out, with the reward of being able to lick the bowl when you were done.
The majority of kids enjoy playing in the kitchen on occasion. But there are some who develop a true aptitude early on for the culinary arts. And this goes beyond merely dumping clumps of dough onto a cookie pan.
You can make cooking simple and fun for these future chefs. You might find that dessert isn’t their only focus, and that they’re excited to prepare the entire meal. Taking up cooking could even be more enjoyable than playing computer games or watching TV.
There are a lot of cookbooks and instructional videos available today that are targeted to kids, and they’re loaded with simple, fun recipes. Don’t be surprised if you find that many of these yummy recipes are actually quite good for you.
Why not have your child decide what’s for dinner that night, and help him along in the preparation. You could be pleasantly surprised when you find out that many of these recipes are quite healthy.
It’s essential that you are very aware of what your kids are up to in the kitchen. You’ll want something sturdier than a kitchen chair when your child wants to reach the countertop, such as a stepping stool. When something goes in or out of the oven, a grownup needs to be the one handling it, along with anything being tended on the stovetop.
Be sure your kids learn that there is always the possibility of harmful accidents in the kitchen. Show them how to avoid being hurt, but also what to do in case an injury does occur. Always err on the side of caution when it comes to your kids’ safety in the kitchen.
